It was Un Certain Regard, the second most prestigious part on the Cannes Film Festival, that introduced arguably the occasion’s largest shock hit this 12 months. Jordan Firstman’s directorial debut “Club Kid,” which performed to thunderous applause on the primary Friday of the pageant, was acquired by a whopping $17 million by A24 after a multiple-bidder race that is still the largest promote of the pageant thus far. May that acclaim translate to prizes?
This 12 months’s Un Sure Regard jury is presided over by French actress Leila Bekhti, who first rose to prominence by Jacques Audiard’s Cannes Grand Prize-winning “A Prophet.” Bekhti was joined by French director Thomas Cailley, whose “Animal Kingdom” opened UCR in 2023, plus Senegalese producer Angele Diabang, Italian director Laura Samani, and Lebanese composer Khaled Mouzanar.
