Manufacturing is underway on the brand new documentary “Mi Familia: Sen Dog and the American Dream,” which chronicles the life and profession of Cypress Hill co-founder, Senen “Sen Dog” Reyes.
In line with an official logline, “Mi Famillia” recounts “Sen’s untold American Dream story, from his family’s humble origins in Cuba to the gangland streets of South Central L.A. and hip-hop superstardom—how they escaped Cuba’s Communist Revolution only to survive a new nightmare when their adopted home of South L.A. was overrun by gang violence in the 1980s, and the extraordinary sequence of events that led to Cypress Hill.”
Among the many doc’s members are hip-hop and rock icons like B-Actual, Slash, Chuck D, DMC, George Clinton, Will.i.am, Emilio Estefan, Pitbull and DJ Matt Pinfield.
“’Mi Familia’ is a truly unique experience that reconnects me with my Cuban roots and our family’s musical legacy, which stretches back many generations,” Reyes mentioned. “It also brings me closer to so many musical icons who have played a part in breaking barriers and blending genres and cultures, and I feel deeply honored to have them featured throughout my journey in this film.”
Reyes co-wrote “Mi Familia” and produced with Christina Banker for Freedom Village Movies. Director Christian Jean additionally co-wrote the doc and serves as producer beneath the Bon Accord Image Firm banner. Sam Okun serves as govt producer.
Reyes debuted the enduring rap posse Cypress Hill in 1991 together with B-Actual (Louis Freese) and producer DJ Muggs (Lawrence Muggerud). They have been later joined by percussionist Eric “Bobo” Correa in 1994. The group was a staple of the West Coast hip-hop scene by means of the late ‘80s and ‘90s, identified for his or her aggressive, bass-heavy sound and unapologetic affinity for smoking weed. Reyes can also be the founding father of steel bands SX-10 and Powerflo.
