Clive Owen Teases Film With ‘The Tribe’ Director Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi, Promises ‘Sensitivity’ to Series on JonBenét Ramsey: ‘People Treat It Like a Murder Mystery’

British actor Clive Owen, who’s in Sicily because the recipient of the Taormina Film Festival Worldwide Award, revealed he’s at the moment engaged on a undertaking with “The Tribe” director Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi. Though extra particulars, together with the undertaking’s identify, are underneath wraps, the actor mentioned he’s “excited” in regards to the upcoming collaboration. It’s price noting Slaboshpytskyi is at the moment solely pegged to 1 undertaking, titled “The Tiger,” following a conservationist sport warden who confronts a supernaturally highly effective Siberian tiger encroaching people in its habitat. Alexander Skarsgård and Dane DeHaan are set to star.

The undertaking is one other one in a big stack of upcoming movies and TV exhibits starring the “Closer” lead, which incorporates Luke Piotrowski’s horror “Blasphemous,” Stefan Ruzowitzky’s historic drama “Kristallnacht,” Richard Hughe’s cop thriller “Scorpion” and Paramount+’s crime sequence “Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey.”

Requested by Selection out of Taormina about what drew him to play John Ramsey within the sequence, particularly contemplating the load of the real-life case behind the story and the legion of on-line sleuths who dedicate themselves to investigating the crime on-line, Owen mentioned he was within the sequence due to director and creator Richard LaGravenese. “He’s a great writer,” he added.

“It was something I felt was worth exploring and hopefully treating it with real sensitivity and understanding and not doing anything conclusive,” Owen went on. “But ultimately that story is an absolute tragedy. Someone lost a kid, that’s the overriding thing. It’s easy to forget about that in all the talk about the case. People treat it like a murder mystery. It’s not. A child died.”

Owen commented on how he finds the present instances “challenging” each personally and professionally as a father of two younger ladies and an actor drawn to authentic initiatives. “It’s sad when you see the next rehash of something and think: ‘Can we not come up with something original?’ It’s almost like a business template. If something is successful, we’ll rehash it. It’ll probably work again. The sad thing for me is that, as a young actor, there was a platform for small independent films that were interesting. Now it’s getting harder and harder for those films to find a life and you’re competing against these huge blockbuster franchises.”

“It feels like a very different landscape,” he added of the world immediately. “It’s just an awful lot of people spending too much time on their phones, living through their phones.” The actor recalled his 2010 thriller “Trust,” saying the movie was in regards to the risks of younger individuals having computer systems of their bedrooms, whereas now the considerations are a lot larger with smartphones.

Requested by Selection about how he feels in regards to the upcoming twentieth anniversary of Alfonso Cuarón’s seminal dystopia “Children of Men,” Owen mentioned the movie “stands the test of time.” “It’s the one film that constantly comes back to me.”

“We’ve all seen films come and go quickly. You’ll see a film that’s very hot one year and, a year later, no one is talking about it. On the 10-year anniversary of the film, the New York Times did an article titled: ‘Why is ‘Children of Men’ still the most relevant film of today?’ I think it’s down to Cuarón using the premise of a film set in the future to discuss worrying things that were going on. If you see that film, I saw it quite recently at a festival, it still really makes an impact.”
