“Afterpiece,” a Hong Kong drama produced by Derek Yee and directed by debut filmmaker Keane T.Okay. Wong, will world premiere because the opening movie of the twenty eighth Shanghai International Film Festival, which runs June 12-21.
The movie facilities on Owen, a once-celebrated stage director who has spent greater than a decade in inventive paralysis. When his former lover returns underneath the pretense of previous affection and his spouse edges towards betrayal, Owen resolves to write down, direct, and star in a brand new manufacturing of his personal. Throughout an open casting name for the feminine lead, he grows more and more drawn to Hannah, an untrained newcomer, and begins to lose his grip on the road separating theatre from actuality.
The solid consists of Stephen Fung, Chrissie Chau, Myolie Wu, and Angela Yuen. Fung portrays the movie’s male protagonist – a creator pushed to the sting by desperation and obsession – whereas Chau and Wu play his spouse and former lover respectively. Yuen, solid because the untrained newcomer who upends the protagonist’s world, supplies the catalyst that drives the movie towards its conclusion.
“Afterpiece” emerged from Hong Kong’s Administrators’ Succession Scheme, a government-funded initiative that pairs veteran filmmakers with rising administrators to help the renewal of Hong Kong cinema throughout generations. Underneath the scheme, Yee took on a producer-mentor position, bringing a long time of on-set expertise to Wong, who beforehand contributed to productions together with “I Am Somebody,” “Sword Master,” and “In Search of Lost Time.”
The twenty eighth SIFF is guided by the China Movie Administration and hosted by China Media Group alongside the Shanghai Municipal Folks’s Authorities.
