Iman Vellani, who broke out because the lead of Marvel’s “Ms. Marvel,” is about to headline the local weather thriller “Suffering Is Optional,” a Canadian co-production written and directed by Zarrar Kahn for CityLights Media.
Vellani will play Noor Rahman, a 20-year-old drama pupil who’s forged within the lead function of an India-set adaptation of “Hamlet.” Pushed by an exacting director to pour her grief into the efficiency, she is concurrently visited by the ghost of her deceased accomplice, who carries an impending local weather prophecy. Torn between creative ambition and institutional abuse, she should discover a solution to deal with each. The movie explores themes of energy and coming of age in a corrupt society, with campus tradition wars and local weather grief at its heart.
Kahn made his characteristic debut with “In Flames,” which premiered at Cannes in 2023 and was chosen as Pakistan’s official submission for the Academy Awards. He developed the “Suffering Is Optional” script drawing on the firsthand accounts of people that survived local weather disasters.
Manufacturing is slated to start in early 2027, with principal images in Hamilton and Montreal. The movie is financed by Telefilm Canada and is a co-production between CityLights Media, LBG Movies, Different Reminiscence Media, and Couronne Nord.
