Nikkatsu Company has agreed a co-presentation cope with Good Photos and Carlotta Movies for “Twist & Shoot Mister Suzuki,” a documentary from director Yves Montmayeur inspecting the life and legacy of Japanese cult filmmaker Suzuki Seijun.
Beneath the association, Nikkatsu takes on worldwide gross sales for the movie whereas Carlotta Movies holds distribution rights throughout French-speaking Europe. The documentary is a co-production by Beall Productions and Emerald Movies.
Montmayeur, whose “The 1000 Eyes of Dr. Maddin” earned him the Golden Lion for greatest documentary on Cinema on the 2015 Venice Movie Competition, turns to the life and legacy of Suzuki Seijun. The movie charts how Suzuki redefined postwar Japanese cinema by defying the conventions of the studio system, forging a mode constructed on garish pop-art imagery and aggressive formal experimentation.
The documentary options contributions from filmmakers together with John Woo and Ninagawa Mika, in addition to from Suzuki Seijun himself. It’s produced by Arthur Gainville and Jean-Marie Nizan, with help from Canal+ OCS, the Centre Nationwide du cinéma et de l’picture animée, and La Procirep.

Carlotta Movies, a French distribution firm specializing in heritage cinema and cult titles, has beforehand produced documentaries on filmmakers together with Satoshi Kon and Kinuyo Tanaka. Based in 1912, Nikkatsu is one in all Japan’s oldest studios and a member of the Yomiuri-Nippon TV group.
