Malta’s Mediterrane Film Festival is about to return for its fourth annual version, with the lineup together with characteristic movies from Steven Soderbergh and Gus Van Sant, joined by star performances from Angelina Jolie, Al Pacino, Invoice Skarsgard and extra.
The 2026 pageant might be held June 21-28 within the capital metropolis of Valletta and showcase greater than 35 movies, together with eight motion pictures in its newly launched Large Display Competitors; eight in a uniquely targeted Mediterrane Competitors, and a bunch of extra Out of Competitors movies offered beneath the banner of New World Cinema. 5 new movies will even compete in its environment-themed Mare Nostrum part.
The winners might be unveiled on the annual Golden Bee Awards on June 28, offered alongside the Pageant’s Rising Star, Lifetime Achievement and Native Legend prizes and reside leisure.
The Large Display Competitors celebrates the perfect of mainstream movies, that includes filmmaking expertise, each established and new, from across the globe. Highlights embody Soderbergh’s artwork forgery drama, “The Christophers,” starring Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, Jessica Gunning and James Corden; Alice Winocour’s trend drama “Couture” that includes Jolie; Gus Van Sant’s hostage thriller “Dead Man’s Wire,” with Pacino, Skarsgard and Colman Domingo; Charli XCX’s mockumentary “The Moment;” and Mark Jenkin’s acclaimed drama “Rose of Nevada,” set in a tiny Cornish fishing village.
The ensemble solid of Callum Turner, Elle Fanning, Jamie Bell, Riley Keough and Pamela Anderson will seem in “Rosebush Pruning;” “Virginia Woolf’s Night and Day” with Haley Bennett, Jack Whitehall, Lily Allen, Jennifer Saunders and Timothy Spall; and Olivier Assayas’ “The Wizard of the Kremlin” starring Paul Dano, Alicia Vikander, Tom Sturridge, Will Eager, Jeffrey Wright and Jude Legislation will even be screened.
The Mediterrane Competitors will showcase new movies from the broad Mediterranean area together with “Calle Malaga;” French-Tunisian “In a Whisper;” “La Gioia;” Cyprus interval piece “Motherwitch;””A Survivor’s Story;” Cairo-set “Complaint No 713317 ;” Maltese psychological drama “Vanitas;” and the animated “A Magnificent Life.”
The New World Cinema choice contains Australia’s “Beast of War;” “Fuori;” “The Last Viking,” starring Mads Mikkelsen; Ben Wheatley’s “Normal,” starring Bob Odenkirk; “The Good Boy;” Macau-set “The Shadow’s Edge;” “Moss & Freud ;” and “Broken English,” starring Tilda Swinton as rock singer Marianne Faithfull.
Mare Nostrum curates movies with an environmental message and Malta Focus affords visiting visitor the possibility to view homegrown movies that show native expertise.
