Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez to Star in Animated Alien Movie ‘Not Alone’ From Illumination


Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are teaming up on “Not Alone,” a brand new alien-themed animated movie from Illumination, the studio behind enormous franchises like “Despicable Me” and “Super Mario Bros.”

In his animation debut, Chalamet will voice Joe, an “introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet life alone,” in line with the announcement, which was made out of Annecy Animation Festival. Gomez is ready to play Fran, a “brilliant astro-botanist who is developing the world’s first-ever plant-fueled rocket.”

“When Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the inaugural launch of this revolutionary rocket, there are immediate sparks, but neither is particularly adept at romance,” the movie’s synopsis reads. “Life becomes more complicated when three aliens — tiny, unruly and adorable — take refuge in Joe’s home. Dunk, Welly and Shirm are on the interplanetary run from a zealous-yet-inept officer of the law named Zandro. The aliens determine that Fran’s rocket could provide their means of getting back home to safety.”

Dunk, Welly and Shirm can be voiced by Rob Brydon (“Barbie,” “The Trip”), Diane Morgan (“Cunk On,” “Mandy”) and Jamie Demetriou (“Cruella,” “Jay Kelly”), whereas “Ted Lasso” star Brett Goldstein will play Officer Zandro. The movie’s supporting solid consists of Allison Janney (“Minions & Monsters,” “The Diplomat”) and Lamorne Morris (“Fargo,” “Spider-Noir”).

“Not Alone” can be co-directed by Illumination mainstays Eric Guillon, the co-director of “Despicable Me 3” and the designer of “Despicable Me” and “Minions”; Claire Dodgson, editor of “The Lorax” and “Minions”; and Jonathan Del Val, co-director of “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and “The Secret Life of Pets 2.”

“Not Alone” is dated for launch on April 16, 2027. The movie is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and govt produced by Pleasure Poirel, Richard Curtis and David Distenfeld.

Illumination is contemporary off premiering its newest “Minions” film, “Minions & Monsters,” at Annecy. The movie has obtained optimistic evaluations, with Variety‘s Guy Lodge calling it “a clear peak for the series: a Minions movie with an actual idea at its core beyond general cheerful chaos, and proof that the pill-shaped devils are served better as stars than as sidekicks.”
